Newt Gingrich, Amateur Paleontologist

When asked about climate change recently, Newt actually said that he now disagrees with what every scientist that is not on the payroll for the energy companies is telling us.  And what was Newt’s reasoning?  Well, because he is an amateur paleontologist, of course.  And after he carefully reviewed the checks from the energy companies, I mean, whatever “evidence” his was looking at, he of course came to the conclusion that climate change has nothing to do with humans, if it exists at all.  Or something like that.

I can’t even keep track of the crazy crap that the Republican nominees are saying any more, there is just so much insane rubbish flowing from their mouths.  From Ron Paul’s wish to reverse the civil right’s act, to, well, any other of the crazies and whatever they are saying.  It is shattering to believe that these asshats are trying to be the candidate running for president of the United States.  I mean I realize we are quickly becoming a banana republic with the corporations in control of every fucking thing there is, but sweet Jeebus these candidates are just nuts. 

And Newt, the same freak that said he would haul court justices before him as president if they displeased him, is now going to the courts to whine about the fact that he failed to get on the ballot for certain states’ caucus elections, as if that is not just crying like a little girl because he and his campaign FAILED to do what was required. 

Obama has screwed up more times that I would care to think about, but compared to the combination clown car/insane asylum that is the current GOP?  Not really much of a contest.  For fux sake, these candidates are afraid to admit that evolution might be real, lest they anger their idiot base. 

Now that I think about it, this sort of reminds me of Afghanistan back in the 1980′s.  We needed the religious whackos in that country to fight against the U.S.S.R., and it worked.  But then that whole plan came around to bite us, as many of the mujahedeen warriors became members and leaders of al-Qaeda.  That is the danger with courting the insane religious conservatives, one day they will make everyone they dislike pay, often through the most brutal means.  For al-Qaeda, this means terrorism.  For the GOP, it means the corporations gain more power and control of a once great nation.

Religious conservative whackos are a threat, no matter what faith they believe in.  And to our great peril, now this conservatives are running the Republican party, and the nation into the graveyard.

Immunity for Telecoms, The Rest of us Are Fucked

So another appeals court said that the immense gathering of personal information after 9/11 was just honky-dory because really, who gives a shit about freedom.

A federal appeals court has ruled as constitutional a law giving telecommunications companies legal immunity for helping the government with its email and telephone eavesdropping program.

But wait for the best part…

The court noted comments made by the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence regarding the legal immunity’s role in helping the government gather intelligence.

“It emphasized that electronic intelligence gathering depends in great part on cooperation from private companies … and that if litigation were allowed to proceed against persons allegedly assisting in such activities, `the private sector might be unwilling to cooperate with lawful government requests in the future,’” Judge M. Margaret McKeown said.

Yes, the justification for violating EVERYONES privacy with no court oversight is that if we don’t just wash our hands of what has happened, then in the future, the private sector may not be willing to help.  Well guess what assholes, THEY NEVER SHOULD HAVE HELPED WITHOUT A COURT ORDER IN THE FIRST FUCKING PLACE.  But the telecoms were all too willing to help, as the government became just another customer to them.  Jesus H. Christ on a popsicle stick, AT&T even withheld information from the government because the government owed AT&T money, so just how interested in the public safety does that sound?

Among the telecoms there was one company that looked at the request to see everything in the fucking world, and said “hey, isn’t this illegal?”  That was Qwest communications.  So if their lawyers looked at the request and found it to be an illegal request, just how in the hell is it that the rest of the telecom assholes are able to just walk away from this smelling like roses instead of the piles of shit that they are?  Easy, one hand washes the other, regardless of the law.  Qwest telecom was of course given nothing but shit by our government afterwards, as with any banana republic.

So a big “Fuck You” to the 9th circuit, you assholes would have pardoned the Watergate burglars citing that in the future, people might be reluctant to illegally break into places for their government.

Michele Bachmann is Still Running? Who Knew

So Michele seems absolutely convinced that she has in fact already won everything, and who knows, she may actually believe she is the current president.  With her, anything is possible, if that anything is an insane anything.  Oddly Bachmann characterized herself as “not a politician,” which seems strange from someone who has been in office for some time now, and is now seeking higher office.  It sort of makes you wonder what she thinks a politician is, but only a large amount of drugs could ever get me to think like she does, and I am far too old for that nonsense.

Of course, the real reason she is still running is because she can still get money from this grift of a campaign, something Michele and her gay husband excel at.  No wonder she is against gay marriage, she is so happy with her own marriage to a gay man, that she wants to spread that joy around.  Or whatever.

Huckabee on Ron Paul

Mike Huckleberry, I mean, Huckabee is of course a conservative Christian who somehow landed a gig at Fox News, my guess is that the Saudi co-owner of the station lost a bet and had to put him on.  But regardless, Huckabee, like the other babbling creatures that infest Fox News, of course offers his opinions on things, and who doesn’t want to hear the opinions of politicians that have lost. 

Still, as pointless of a person as Huckabee might be, even a stopped clock is right twice a day.  Huckabee was speaking about the unelectability of Ron Paul, in spite of the many supporters that Ron Paul has (and in spite of the fact that many of them seem to be somewhat unhinged).  Huckabee said the following: 

“Iowa is not so much a place that picks presidents, but it does pick people who are thrust into the upper tier,” Huckabee said on Fox News Sunday. “That’s the history and it gives people credibility. In the case that it’s Ron Paul – and I know I’m going to get a lot of nasty letters and emails too – Ron Paul is not going to be elected president. He’s not.”

“There’s no way (a Paul win in Iowa) is going to do anything other than confuse the race,” he continued. “But he’s not going to get the nomination, that’s for sure.”

The Huckster will be oh-so lucky if all he gets is nasty letters and emails, he should look into hiring some private security if he is going to go after a cult leader like Ron Paul.  It is true that in recent days the Ron Paul campaign has hit a snag in the form of derogatory racial statements, but to me that seems to be a tempest in a tea-pot, as it is extremely unlikely that Ron Paul himself really had much to do with what happened so many years ago with flyers going out.  True, his name was on those flyers, but honestly, who thinks Ron Paul wrote those things.

Ron Paul will not win the nomination because he has been a thorn in the side of the religious right for too long, plain and simple.  He may win a primary here and there, and do well in certain polls, but when it is time to get down to brass tacks, many of the conservative base are looking for something besides Ron Paul.  And while I may agree with Ron Paul of a few things here or there, to be honest I disagree with so many of his ideas that even to entertain the notion that he might be president is actually sort of funny.  I know that sounds cruel, but I can’t help it.   Thinking that the religious right will back someone like Ron Paul is just not realistic.  They will of course applaud his ideas on cutting spending, reducing the government, and all the other unkept promises that politicians must make, but having him as Obama’s opponent in 2012?  Doubtful, to say the very least.

Kim Jong il Declared Dead

Kim Jong Il had been in charge of North Korea for so many years now, that it is difficult to imagine North Korea without him.  He was a despot, a tyrant that feasted and drank a LOT of booze while most of the people starved, which would make a lot more sense if North Korea was not officially communist.  I mean you’d think that some of the vestiges of socialism would be there, but for a leader like Kim Jong, the whole thing is essentially a scam.  No big surprise, and certainly not much of a secret.

So now a son of his, though not the first-born, is in charge of everything.  I hope his liver can keep up.  But how crazy is the kid?  From what little we know, he seems to have not fallen far from the crazy tree.  It is strange to realize that Kim Jong Il was only 69 years old, he seemed much older than that to me.  Not that 69 is a spring chicken of course, but with all his ailments, I guess I just thought he was at least 10 years older.

So what will become of North Korea’s nuclear program?  Although for all their efforts, their nominal warhead yield seemed to be pretty weak, and seemed to essentially be a bargaining chip to get the U.S. to send them food.  North Korea had so many crazy things going on, from occasionally attacking South Korea, to trying to flood the U.S. currency with counterfeit money. 

His finest moment was of course as a puppet.

 

Lowe’s Home Improvement Bows to Christian Nutters

Lowe’s decided to pull their ads from a TV show that talks about Americans who are Muslims, and what it is like to be a Muslim in this country.  Evidently the idea that Muslims are living here at all is just all too much for some bigoted pricks, as the Florida Family Association decided to get their knickers in a twist about a TV show showing that Muslims were actually already here (gasp!), and they demanded Lowe’s stop having their ads show on that channel.

Now if the TV show in question had been about say, building bombs, or committing terrorist acts, or something along those lines, then I could entirely agree with an advertiser not wanting to be a part of that.  But when a show is actually trying to show what it is like for Muslims who are Americans, and the bigotry that they sometimes must face in their lives because of the fear of some people, then it seems almost ming boggling that Lowe’s could have thought that the appropriate step was to bow to the bigots. 

I have only seen two episodes of the show in question, and to be honest, I thought some of the Muslims in the show were kind of jerks, but to me this just proved that they are indeed Americans.  Because as Americans (though indeed this is not merely an American delusion), whatever religion they are in is of course the right one and everyone else is wrong, and so on.  But I guess they don’t matter because they are a minority, and as usual the Christian Sharia assh*les that keep saying they are afraid of some strange religion imposing their views on anything in America are the ones who are of course the ones that are trying to have their religious views imposed on everyone in the fucking country. 

I don’t want any of these assholes from any religion imposing whatever fairy tale they believe in on the rest of us in the form of laws, but regrettably we are stuck with the minds of animals that cannot reason past our own nose.  And so we must endure the incredible stupidity of religion, and worse, the followers of those faiths.  I know Lowe’s has the right to advertise where ever they feel like, but bowing to bigotry like this just reminds me of how moronic the human species is.  And that is always a sad thing to be reminded of.

Newt Gingrich Stands with Israel Sooo Much…

In the past Newt has said that he firmly stands with Israel, which is the normal thing for any candidate to say.  But now he seems to be going that extra mile, stating that Palestinians do not exist.  The minor flaw in his “logic” is of course that such a statement could easily extend to any group of people, anywhere (i.e. Canadians don’t exist, they just live there in a country called Canada, so if we changed the name of that region, they would ipso facto become fictional citizens). 

So instead of a two-state solution I guess Newt wants the non-Jewish community to leave their homes, because they do not belong there.  While I would say that the number of problems to be overcome in that region seem insurmountable when trying to work out just how in the world a two-state solution would work, to just tell a group of the people that have lived there for quite some time now to fuck off seems a tad short-sighted, regardless of if you are talking about the Jewish population of Israel or the Palestinians.
